Betty Debban holds degrees
from Drake University and the University of Iowa. She has served on
the faculty at Drake U., Montana University, The University of Iowa,
Coe College and Mount Mercy College.
Retired in 1987 from
the Cedar Rapids Community Schools position of Program Facilitator
for the K-12 music program, Betty continued with the Grant Wood Area
Education Agency as music keyboard consultant until June of 2002.
Over 100 Iowa schools currently participate in a keyboard experience
project written by Mrs. Debban.
Betty has
conducted organ literature and performance sessions for the Local,
State and Regional Fellowship of United Methodist Musicians. She
served as an accompanist for Eugene Conley, former Metropolitan
Opera Tenor, and has performed on organ and piano nationally and
internationally including an appearance in the Basilica at the
Valley of the Fallen near Madrid, Spain.
In 1989 she received
a F.I.N.E. (First In the Nation in Education) Award for a
Keyboard/Computer project in Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and Marion
Schools. In 1994 she received the Distinguished Service Award from
the Iowa Music Association.
For the past seven
years, Betty served Trinity United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids.
Prior to that appointment, she served as organist for twenty-seven
years at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids.
