Visioning the Future at Christ Episcopal Church
Beginning in 2004, the congregation embarked on a journey of trying to envision our future. We invited members to visioning sessions to talk about what they see for Christ Church. About 80 people took part in these, roughly 25% of the average Sunday attendance. While not a large turn out, the ideas expressed seemed to be representative of conversations among many others.
Six general areas of interest emerged from the conversations: buildings and facilities, grounds, outreach, program, staff, and worship. Many comments tended to relate to current life at Christ Church. The committee presented these ideas to the Vestry and recommended that we continue to refine the vision.
The Visioning Task Force identified four broad themes: welcoming, growing as Christians, taking care of ourselves and music/worship. Work groups were formed around two of the areas of interest – welcoming and music/worship. The work groups were to prioritize and determine what would be needed in order to accomplish the various tasks in the area.
In January 2008 at the Annual Parish Meeting, the Visioning Task Force presented its recommendations in each of the areas. The congregation affirmed the Visioning process and ongoing work.
Conversations continue especially around physical space needs, staffing and music/worship.
