Upcoming Fundraisers – Spring, 2006

The SwaziCompanions Fundraising Committee has three more fund raisers in the works to reach our goal of $25,000. We need $15,000 to build St. Augustine’s School in Mpaka, Swaziland and thanks to the generous support of the people of Christ Church and the diocese of Iowa we have reached that goal. Our next goal is to raise $10,000 for scholarships for the Iowans who need financial assistance to meet expenses of traveling to Swaziland this July. If all of these funds are not needed for travel, they will be used for teacher salaries, benches and school supplies for St. Augustine’s.

“Children for Children’s Concert”   May 25, 2006
Our children’s choirs are offering the gift of their beautiful voices to SwaziCompanions. Enjoy an evening of wonderful music while you are supporting the youth of both Christ Church and Mpaka, Swaziland. Ria Olson has recorded a CD of the song she composed and performed at the Fall Talent Show and these will be available for purchase.

“Have Your Cake & Eat It Too” Dessert Auction
A light lunch will be served after the 10:30 service. The menu: Mashed potato bar with your choice of toppings (creamed chicken, broccoli in cheese sauce, chili, butter, sour cream, chipped beef, etc.), salad, cookies and assorted beverages.

During the “Have Your Cake & Eat It Too” Dessert Auction you will be able to bid on mouth-watering desserts that are ready to take home and enjoy immediately or for those with self-control you may bid on a dessert certificate for the date you choose. You can be sure the gourmands of Christ Church will offer delectable goodies!

Imagine “reserving” a delicious assortment of homemade Christmas cookies for Christmas ’06, a cheesecake for a fall birthday or a fresh rhubarb pie for this June!
Plan to join the fun as a contributor, a bidder or both!

“Women’s Day of Rest”
Women (teens to adults) will be transported to a relaxing and beautiful Indian retreat. Our own Minny Olson has offered her home as a respite from the stresses of everyday life. We will enjoy the hot tub, delicious homemade treats with tea, Indian music, movies, and henna. Don’t forget your swim suit. Massages may be an option.

O, come let us give thanks in the house of the Lord. For the reception hosted by the Roses and Sandbergs, the glowing candles, three magi, star-led procession, joyful singing, Epiphany service sermon, the 100 people enjoying the culinary miracle of turducken and trimmings perfected under Diane Pettifor's leadership and the artistic transformation of the undercroft by Susie Streit. For Libby Slappey's laughter-promoting auctioneering that netted $4,200 and counting, the many people who cooked, set up, cleaned up, signed up, offered meals for auction, bid, made generous donations and participated in a myriad of important ways, we give thanks.
