What Is Stewardship?

Stewards manage property not their own and have a willingness to care for that which is entrusted to them. As Christians, we are trustees of God’s gifts and have a commitment to make conscious, purposeful decisions about this world in relationship to God.

In the purest sense, stewardship is the joyful act of sharing, passing on, and teaching for the sake of God’s world - empowered by the Holy Spirit, to be the hand, voice, and heart of God’s work. It is conversion in relationship with God, self, community and earth, as a grateful celebration and sharing of God’s blessings, not as an act of fundraising. The base of stewardship evolves around our relationship with our family.

Principal Stewardship Elements

Stewardship of Time:

Creation:

Environmental Stewardship

Evangelism:

Teach children the joyous response to God’s love by giving and sharing

Musical Opportunities

Sing, play an instrument, and dance

Stewardship of Treasure

Basic/Ordinary

Basic stewardship guidelines in Scripture are outlined as 10% tithing and keeping the Sabbath holy, to be followed as a joyful expression of thanks to God. At Christ Episcopal Church, the concept of the Modern Tithe is the suggested spiritual practice. This tithing philosophy further defines the 10%, to direct 5% toward Christ Church's operational activities and 5% to charitable organizations, either within and/or outside of the church. This is known as the Every Member Canvas and is conducted in the fall as a pledge of monetary support for the upcoming year. This year the canvas will be in memory of Nate Reed.
