Sing for Swaziland Concert
Christ Episcopal Church’s
Children and Youth Choirs invite you to attend “Sing for Swaziland: A
Cantata of Celebration” on Thursday, May 25 at 6:30 pm.
Bring your family and
friends to enjoy an evening of festive music and songs by our young
people, with refreshments served following the ceremony. The concert
celebration will be held at 220 40th Street NE, CR.
The choirs are singing to
support the orphaned children of Swaziland. In July 2006, a mission team
from the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa will travel to Mpaka, Swaziland to help
build a school. This is phase II of a continuing mission to develop
companion ties with the Diocese of Swaziland and it’s people.
According to Reuters,
Swaziland has the highest rate of HIV/Aids in Africa, resulting in more
than 60,000 children becoming orphans. This number is expected to double
in the next four years.
One of the mission
travelers is Biology Professor at Coe College Dr. Paula Sanchini. She
hopes to conduct a water quality study in the area with three of her
students to determine if the drinking water is safe. Depending on the
results of her study, a new well may need to be drilled, which could
become phase III of the mission.
Again, please help Christ
Episcopal Church youth to support Swaziland orphans. There will be an
opportunity during the ceremony to contribute to this life saving effort
through a good will offering.
