LYRA
Concert
LYRA,
a group of six professional, conservatory-trained musicians from St. Petersburg,
Russia, will perform at Christ Episcopal Church, 220 40th Street NE
on Monday, May 9 at
7:30 p.m.
The program includes two portions: Chants of the Russian Orthodox Church
and Russian Folk Songs. A brief intermission between the programs features
light refreshments.
Each
of the LYRA musicians perform at churches in St. Petersburg, and some are soloists in musical theatre as well. One of the unique
features of the performance is that, being soloists, they blend perfectly
in harmony and tone. Reviews from previous performances have included some
of the finest a cappella voices I've ever heard; the
power of the human voice became self-evident reminding us that voices
were the first musical instruments; the spirit is liberated.
The
intended program begins with Sacred Chants of the Russian Orthodox Church:
Glory
to the God in the highest
D. Botniansky
Thee
only most pure Protectress
P. Tchesnokov
Rejoice,
o Virgin Theotokos
S. Rakhmaninov
Our
Father
N. Kedrov
Cherubic
chant
D. Botniansky
Praise
the Lord, oh my soul
P. Tchesnokov
The
song of angel
P. Tchesnokov
Praise
the name of the Lord
D. Khristov
Following
are Russian Folk Songs: Couplets (Tchastushke); My way is misted;
Black-browed, black-eyed fellow; The bright moon is shining; Farewell song
of a mariner; Let us go home, friends
LYRA

Irina Zykova, Mezzo-Soprano; Sergey Tupitsyn, Tenor; Anton Malakhovsky,
Baritone; and Vladimir Feliauer, Bass.
There

helping fund future
visits
to the United
States.
