Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry
It’s Loaves & Fishes Super Sunday!
What is Super Sunday? Every week the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry serves hundreds of hungry people. We collect food all year round and some parishioners pledge financial support to the pantry. Nevertheless we still greet many hungry guests each week at the pantry. The third Sunday of each month has been designated as Super Sunday, the day we challenge ourselves to fill the shopping cart in the narthex to overflowing! February’s date is THIS Sunday! The special items requested for this Super Sunday are:
deodorant & toilet paper
canned fruit, soup & green beans
(no glass please!)
Kids’ Closet: until the end of February we are collecting children’s socks, all sizes & colors.
The Loaves & Fishes Pantry?
The food pantry began in 1987 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, which merged with St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in 1997 to become Christ Episcopal Church. On October 21, 2003, it was reborn as the Loaves and Fishes Pantry, an expanded operation as a shared ministry with Westminster Presbyterian Church, in a large house owned by Westminster and on a bus line at 1251 Third Ave SE. The Kids’ Closet began as a Vacation Bible School offering project in 2009. Children were asked to bring in outgrown clothes that might be used by other children for the start of school. So many items came in that the idea of an ongoing ministry to families was born.
Watch the top of this page or This Week, the weekly newsletter of Parish news, for needed items for the Pantry and Kids’ Closet.
