Food Pantry: Loaves & Fishes
The Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry is a source of food, fellowship and friendship for our community. In partnership with Westminster Presbyterian Church, Christ Church serves an average of 85 households each Tuesday at an older home located in the southeast Cedar Rapids Wellington Heights neighborhood.
HOURS OF OPERATION: 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays
LOCATION: The pantry is located at 1251 3rd Avenue SE.
There are no requirements for pantry guests to receive food. Each guest makes choices on which food being offered would be best used for their own family.
The Pantry receives food from members of both churches as well as the HACAP Food Reservoir (a Second Harvest agency). Fresh vegetables and fruit as well as frozen meats are often donated. Local bakeries provide day-old, yet delicious bakery items that are popular with our guests. Blankets and toys are provided during the Christmas season, and extra-special items such as hams or turkeys are given to pantry guests at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
We invite you to join this Jubilee Ministry by serving once a month at the pantry, occasionally picking up and delivering large quantities of needed food items, contributing foods each month and/or donating for food purchases. We will gladly work around your schedule and interests.
