From Ashes to Joy: The Lenten Experience 2010

Come and join us in experiencing a holy Lent this year.

Exploring Liturgy: Weekends in Lent

Weekend worship services:
Saturdays, 5:30 p.m.
and Sundays, 8 and 10:30 a.m.

On four of the weekends in Lent, a bit of worship time will be set aside to explore the meaning, theology and function of sacrament and music in our liturgy and worship. This Lenten practice of learned discipline will deepen our understanding of why we do what we do and the importance of it all.

Book study: The Naked Now: Learning to See as the Mystics See by Richard Rohr

The enlightenment you seek in other religions has been present in Christianity from the beginning. Through this book study, you can: Awaken your desire for God; free yourself from the fears that can cripple you; connect to the joy already within you; transform yourself and inspire others; see as the mystics see; and live in full awareness of the “Naked Now”.

Led by a variety of team members, you are welcome to come and join the discussion of the transformative journey of contemplative faith. If you’ve not signed up to receive a copy of the book, you are still welcome to join. Extra copies may be available, and a brief summation will be given before each discussion.

Track Two: in the Parish Hall Kitchen

Prayer and Personality

Prayer not working for you? Want to explore different ways of prayer or prayer styles? Does your personality and your prayer style match up? Not praying and wanting to try? Ready for a change in your prayer attempts?

This Lenten season, we’ll gather with Martha+ to investigate varying approaches to prayer. Practice will be required between our sessions! If you can’t join in person, join this same group in our online discussion group, posted to your email inbox each Sunday afternoon. Want to join online? Simply send an email to MarthaR@ChristEpiscopal.org and you’ll be issued an invitation to join the group, where you’ll receive (via email) the weekly prayer style to try. Then, during the week, we’ll have the opportunity to discuss online among ourselves comments and observations about that style and prayer in general.

Devotional and Reading Materials

Available near the main entrance and outside the library.

These materials can give you new perspectives and help you along the way as we move from Ashes to Joy this Lenten season.

Please take what you need.
