"Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."

Those who minister to youth and children at Christ Church are obedient to the loving command of Jesus to let the children come to Him.  Both children and adults involved in Youth and Children's Ministry are mutually blessed as we carry out the vision of the church "... to know Christ and make him known" through:

Reaching Out To Others With the Love of Christ

Heart-Land Sunday School

Each Sunday morning children gather for a fast moving and fun filled time with the stories of the Bible. Using the rotation model that reaches a variety of learning styles, leaders and shepherds guide our children in exploring the lessons the Bible has to give us.

Children are grouped and age appropriate materials are developed for these groups. A dedicated group of adults oversee this program and many adults help in the actual teaching. Parents are welcome to participate as shepherds, teachers or on the planning committee.

Our rotation units for the 2008-2009 school year include: People Who Made a Difference, Ten Lepers, Journey to Bethlehem, Creation, David the King, Jesus is Baptized and Breakfast on the Beach. We also have the Christmas Pageant in December and an Easter Egg hunt in April.

Heartland starts each Sunday at 9:15 a.m. and ends at 10:15 a.m.  We meet in room 116 for Opening.  We start off by passing a red piggy bank around the room.  The piggy bank money goes to Spring and Fall service projects.  We then recognize birthdays and any other special events.  Lastly, before parting to Workshops, we say a blessing.

Heartland uses the Workshop Rotation model to teach the children about the Bible.  In the Workshop Model, the children learn the same story for three Sundays.  Each Sunday, the children rotate to a different Workshop to learn the story in a different way.  The Workshops use Art, Cooking, Drama, Games, and Video to learn the meaning of the lesson.  On the fourth Sunday, collectively all the children are brought together for Whole Group.  In Whole Group, we all come together to play a final game that once again reinforces the lesson.  We then quiz the children on the lesson and reward them with candy when they have the correct answer.  A small snack is also offered at whole group as a treat for the children.

Heartland also has several other opportunities for the children.  The opportunities include Service Projects, Halloween Party, Christmas Pageant, Easter Egg Hunt and Pizza/Game/Movie Night.

One of the special Service Projects the children have participated in is giving the piggy money to the Animal Shelter.  In combination with donating money, the children have also participated in service projects such as collecting gently used and new books to give to children at Tanager’s place.

Pizza/Game/Movie night is a great night for parents to have a night out without the kids.  All Heartland children are welcome to attend the Pizza/Game/Movie night held in the Spring.  Pizza will be served for dinner.  Snacks will be provided throughout the evening.  The Heartland teachers will lead the children in board games.  Children may also choose to watch a newly released movie in Gundrum parlor.  The night is fun filled for all.

Other special events that the Heartland children have participated in are hayrack rides, karoke and Halloween costume parties.  We like to have a lot of fun at Heartland.  We hope you join us on Sunday mornings.

The Children's Room: Our Nursery Minstry

The goal of our Nursery Ministry is to let the youngest of our children - the "little ones" whom Jesus loves - come to Jesus through:

Introducing these youngest children to the love of Christ and the Church by providing a safe and loving environment.

Providing support for our parents through caring for their children while they are nurtured through participation in church ministries.

The Christ Church nursery is available from 7:45 AM though the conclusion  of the 10:30 AM service.  The nursery is located across from the Gundrum Parlor in the southwest corner of the building.  The nursery is supervised by a trained staff member and volunteer.  Children, infants through 5 years old, will enjoy a safe and loving environment to play and worship.
