Godly Play in the Schultz Children's Chapel
![]() |
A special chapel time for children is offered during the Liturgy of the Word portion of our 10:30 worship services. Following the Collect of the Day, the children are led by a child acolyte to the Godly Play Chapel and likewise return during the Peace to rejoin the church family for Holy Communion. Children's Chapel at Christ Church uses the Godly Play curriculum, and is most appropriate for ages 3-12. Godly Play is a Montessori-based approach to learning which enables children to experience the presence of a loving God and discover how to “speak the language” of their biblical faith. This approach was developed by Dr. Jerome Berryman, teacher, author and Episcopal priest, and has been in use for over 25 years. Godly Play happens at other times, in or outside the Chapel room: with adults, during a Bible Study or a committee meeting’s opening devotions; with youth, at a youth group or confirmation retreat; with families, for baptism preparation or at a hospital visit. The Godly Play Chapel itself is also available when not being used formally, where people of all ages are welcome to work with the materials on their own or to use the altar space for personal devotions. Godly Play is a powerful, proven way for people of faith both to share their spiritual tradition and to bring people - adults as well as children - into God’s graceful presence. |

Christ Church has three accredited Godly Play teachers, who would love to share this ministry with others: Lisa Butler, Lesley Fleming, and Rachel German. Please email us for more information. We are also in continual need for craftspeople and sewers to make and care for our important story materials. The children would also appreciate donations of nickels for use in our United Thank Offering collection box.
