Don't we live in a full and fast-paced culture? It seems like there is much to fill all the hours of the day and weeks. Most of us fill a lot of our time with rewarding and challenging work whether it be in an office, at home, intense travel or a combination of all these. Add to this all the activities we are invited into -- if we have children there are numerous activities focused on their interests; cultural events and opportunities abound in the Cedar Rapids area; there is always some sort of sporting activity offered for spectator entertainment; and then there are the ongoing chores assciated with living. No doubt it is a very full life we all live!
So where does one begin to find time to grow one's spiritual relationship with God? Church and Christian growth are not about trying to find one more hour or so in an already full schedule, but about recognizing how this very full life makes so much more sense knowing how God is part of all we are and do. The relationship each of us has with God must be nurtured so that our lives, busy as they are, are lived with a purpose, with a meaning that makes all the frustration and challenge worthwhile. It is more about putting events and activities in order in our lives.
Prayer is nurturing, service to others is nurturing, strengthening relationships with other people is nurturing, learning is nurturing, worshiping God is nurturing. All these nurturing tools are found at Church, in various forms. Be good to yourself. Identify one way you will work on your spiritual relationship with God this fall, then in the winter, spring and summer. The benefits are great!
