Christ Church youth winning CANstruction exhibit: Together We Can Break the Fast
Yes, it is correctly spelled! The focus is on the word “can” and Christ Church is part of a yearly partnership with local architects and engineers who design larger than life structures made entirely out of cans of food.
Each spring, the youth of Christ Church demonstrate their commitment to being a Jubilee parish by participating in the Canstruction event, which is held at a local mall in either Cedar Rapids or Iowa City. With guidance from Christ Church engineers and youth leaders, the kids come up with a creative idea focused on ending hunger. They gather the precise number, color and contents of cans of food and create their structure.
At the end of the week long display of the many fabulous structures, canned goods are taken to HACAP and Second Harvest, then distributed to local food pantries, including our own Loaves and Fishes.
Being canny is way cool!
